This quilt is a tribute to Mother Nature and her four elements along with one of my favorite subjects, the tree of life. The fire is represented by the sun Mandala in the background, the water by the river and the waterfall, the air by the clouds, and the earth by the mountains and the ground. All of these elements are essential for our survival and for all life. Let's protect them!

When I saw the new contest offer in Paducah, I told myself that if I had an original idea, I was going to do it. Within five minutes, I sat at the computer, saw a picture of an elephant and in a flash of enlightenment, I knew exactly what I wanted. I call such quilts “quilts of divine inspiration” because of the strong inner knowing that it is the right path to pursue. I knew, deep down, that it was important to follow through with this project. I wanted to produce a mosaic effect and also include some impression of depth. But how? I had to empty my mind and believe in the process. So I have been patient and I have let creative revelations guide me along the way. Because patience is golden. And confidence can be generous.
I could say that Colourful Dream was meant to be.

When I was a teenager, a mother fox would bring her five cubs outside our house to be fed. Later on, in the summer, only one pup stayed and roamed around my parents' house. He wasn’t tamed, but we could sense he had a very gentle soul. I always enjoyed witnessing innocent interaction between different species, and this is why I decided to portray this fox looking inquisitively at another gentle soul, a delicate butterfly.

There is something about the tree of life that is inspiring, grounding, and calming to me. Without the sun represented in the background, life would not exist. The sun was designed separately and transferred onto the fabric.

After I made the Colourful Dream elephant using a technique that left a thin black space surrounding each piece, I decided to further test it on this new design. After deciding on my main subject, the owl, the surrounding decor emerged gradually. Then came the idea to depict a fairytale landscape inviting the viewer to imagine their own storyline; the key, the castle, the frog and the crown guiding the observer through the outline of a fantastic scenario.
People ask me the reason behind certain details, and my answer is always: “Your guess is as good as mine.”
Artist statement
I like to render real subjects and produce the most realistic portrayal while distorting lifelikeness by playing with shapes and colours. Horses, with their loose floating mane and graceful silhouette, always put me in a state of free rein and lightness of spirit. I am a true animal lover. The purity and innocence they radiate lead me to a perfect escape from reality that I try to translate into fabric.
And thus, my goal is always to make my subject speak, provoke an emotion or recall a memory with its eyes, its movement, and its peacefulness.

I am a cat lover and decided to capture the intense gaze of my lovely Maggie and let the observer make their own interpretation of what she might be thinking or might do next.
